Greenland has reliable 4G in its coastal towns, run by a single state-owned operator. Between those towns, across the ice sheet and fjord wilderness, there is no signal at all.

⚡ POWER TIP
Coverage exists only in and immediately around Greenland's coastal towns. The moment you leave a settlement, by boat, snowmobile, or on foot, assume zero signal and plan accordingly, regardless of which eSIM you're carrying.
✅ VPN FULLY LEGAL
No restrictions on VPN use in Greenland. As a Danish territory, the same GDPR-backed privacy protections apply. All standard apps work normally. A VPN is useful for public WiFi security, not for bypassing any blocks.

// Network & tourist eSIM
Tusass
Greenland's only mobile network, wholly state-owned and formerly known as TELE Greenland. Provides 4G LTE (no 5G yet) in the main coastal towns: Nuuk, Sisimiut, Ilulissat, Qaqortoq, Aasiaat, and Maniitsoq. Roughly 92% of Greenlanders live within its coverage — but that reflects population, not geography. The uninhabited majority of the country has none.
Hello Greenland
Tusass's own prepaid tourist product, built specifically for visitors: a local Greenlandic number, data, calls, and SMS, activated by QR code as either an eSIM or a physical SIM. No subscription, no recurring charges. Physical pickup is available at Tusass stores in Nuuk, Sisimiut, and Ilulissat if you'd rather not go digital.
// What to expect
Coastal towns
Nuuk, Sisimiut, Ilulissat, Qaqortoq, Aasiaat, and Maniitsoq all have dependable 4G, and Kangerlussuaq's airport is covered too. Hotels and cafes in these towns commonly offer WiFi, which many travellers use to preserve data.
The ice sheet and fjord wilderness
Outside the coastal towns, there is no mobile coverage of any kind, not patchy, not occasional, none. The interior ice sheet, backcountry trekking routes, and boat crossings between settlements are all completely offline, regardless of season or which network you're on.
🌊 The honest gap
Greenland's 6.5 score isn't a narrow dip like most destinations on this site, it's a real structural split. Coverage is genuinely excellent in the handful of towns where the vast majority of the population lives, and genuinely absent everywhere else, which is most of the country by land area. If your trip stays in town, connectivity is a non-issue. If it doesn't, bring a satellite communicator, not just an eSIM.
// Practical tips
Emergency number: 112
Unlike most of this site's destinations, Greenland doesn't split emergencies by service — 112 connects you to police, fire, and medical rescue alike, available in Kalaallisut, Danish, and English. It's free from any phone, with or without an active data plan.
There are no roads between towns
Greenland's settlements aren't connected by road — travel between them is by boat, helicopter, or small aircraft. Air Greenland runs the country's domestic network. Budget for offline stretches during any inter-town journey, however you make it.
Your eSIM doesn't work in the wilderness
Ice sheet crossings, ski touring, and backcountry hiking all fall outside any network's reach. A satellite communicator is standard safety equipment here — Garmin inReach, SPOT, or similar. An eSIM is not a substitute for one.

Protect your connection on public WiFi
Greenlandic café, hotel, and public WiFi networks carry standard risks, and are especially relied upon here given the cost of local data. Use your eSIM data for banking and sensitive logins. A VPN on public WiFi is good practice and completely unrestricted.
Alternative ID for sign-ups
Greenlandic and Danish booking platforms and tourist apps collect personal data. A disposable email and identity keeps your real information off databases you will not use again.
